Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s date with destiny with his Godson Giovanni Reyna is in major doubt after the American Borussia star was taken unwell during the warm up against Union Berlin.

Already potentially missing a bunch of key first-team stars, Marco Rose, Dortmund boss, saw yet another one unavailable for the Berlin match (which they still won 3-0) after Claudio’s lad was taken off during the warm up complaining of sickness.

The subplot of this one is certainly well-documented, with GVB anticipating the potential for facing his friend’s son, but this get-together may be doomed before it even begins if the winger isn’t well by the time Rangers arrive in Germany come Thursday.

It comes at a time when Rangers’ available players rise, while Dortmund’s fall, which really is handy timing.

Even with a fringe squad, Dortmund will be a mighty prize to topple regardless, but Gio would have wanted to face his namesake.

Looks like that may not be happening. At least not this week…
