Could Rangers finally be ready to welcome back Barry Ferguson into the fold, after the former captain quit his post at Alloa amid rumours of his returning to Ibrox within the coaching setup.
The 44-year old former midfielder has had a mixed bag as a manager, first at Blackpool as caretaker, then Clyde, then Kelty before taking up the reins at the Indodrill in Clackmannanshire.
But he is now seeking employment and he’s on record as aching to return to Rangers in any capacity, and it’s well-known Rangers could use a ‘local’ coach liaison for Giovanni’s team, a Scottish Rangers man with a native capacity.
Neil McCann had been suggested, and we do understand there were talks, but nothing transpired from them, and now that Ferguson is available, he is more than eager to join up.
Is this something that Gio needs or wants?
Yes and no, is the answer.
Kevin Thomson had been suggested by some hopefuls, but he WAS at Ibrox with our youth and left for Kelty, in a quirky reverse twist of fate, and in reality he’s not any more a Rangers man than Steven Gerrard is. His team growing up was Hibs, and he’d be honest enough to admit that, but of course he’s got plenty of time for Rangers and clearly supports us these days – he’s certainly on RTV enough!
As for Barry?
He did speak to Pedro Caixinha but could tell it wasn’t right and didn’t elect to take up the gig at that point, understandably.
But with things more normal these days, Barry would love to follow follow back to Ibrox.
We’d love to see him return.
