Some Rangers fans very much still want Aberdeen star at Ibrox

We’re hearing a lot of buzz all of a sudden on the Robbie Fowler/Alan Smith of the 10s/20s in the form of Aberdeen’s Lewis Ferguson.

There is zero information GVB has any interest in the Dons playmaker whatsoever but it hasn’t stopped ‘talk’ appearing about the prospect, and in a straw poll on our social media channels Lewis’ name came up once or twice as a player fans did actually want in our colours come February.

Where do we stand on this one?

Ferguson, by some distance, is Aberdeen’s best player, with only our former lad Ross McCrorie coming close, and the graduate of the famous Ferguson Rangers dynasty is well-linked in Ibrox circles because he’s patently one of us.

But we are very wary that he’s good enough to supplant the likes of Glen Kamara or Steven Davis in that position, albeit he is flexible enough to play in any midfield position so he only has Joe Aribo ahead of him…

The point we’re making is when Steven Gerrard was manager, we really wanted Ferguson because we considered him better than what we had.

But since Gio took the reins, he’s getting a tonne more from his midfielders than the ex-boss did and it’s giving new life to the Kamaras, Aribos, and Arfields, so the urgency for Ferguson isn’t as strong as it was.

That said he is still one of the best talents in the SPL aside the Old Firm, so it wouldn’t be the worst signing.

But it just wouldn’t be in the same league as signing, say, a Billy Gilmour…
