On top of the welcome news of Joe Aribo’s return to Ibrox is the even more welcome news that hard-working forward Kemar Roofe asked to be overlooked for Jamaica’s upcoming squad in order to spend time recovering from his injury.

The former Leeds man has been out for some considerable time now, and has only just returned to training, with an ETA on his availability not yet established, so as a result, he’s been left out of his country’s call and will concentrate on his fitness.

This isn’t quite club v country, but just a young man being sensible and not going to play football when he’s not ready.

If he isn’t ready for Rangers, he’s not ready for Jamaica either.

There are only 9 days to go till the big one, and it’s touch and go if Roofe will be available for that as it is, so it would have been very risky for him to go on international duty while not being definitely ready for it.

It reminds us of Leon Balogun, who was 100% said to be going to the AFCON, but fans were puzzled at the contradiction that he wasn’t fit for Rangers, so why would he be joining his country’s base in Cameroon.

Of course, he was left out on fitness grounds in the end, and this is much the same.

We hope Roofe will be back for us fit and healthy in time for the trip to Parkhead.
