Rangers target John Souttar has reportedly changed his mind and chosen Rangers, and is advocating a January switch if one can be arranged.

The Hearts stopper was said to have chosen the Championship in England, on the basis of a pre contract, but his preference now is Rangers as long as the move can be done this month.

On a pre-contract, Soutta would still choose England’s second tier.

Rangers now firmly have the ball in their court – truth is we need defenders yesterday, so Souttar is not unwelcome and won’t cost a king’s ransom either, but Hearts do hold the cards to an extent here.

That said, player power is definitely a thing and if Souttar wants his move to Rangers now, he’ll likely get it, because he’s made it clear to the Tynecastle hierarchy that he is leaving at the very latest this summer, and they will want to make some cash on him.

So his preference now is Rangers, but that may change if the Gorgie bosses decide to hold onto him regardless of the summer prospects.

We’ll see how it develops.
