Rangers are set to get John Souttar in now after the Hearts defender was left out of his club’s cup tie amid discussions with the Famous to bring him to Govan ASAP.

Rangers are believed to have offered £300,000 with Hearts seeking almost double that, but the offer is being considered nevertheless and last night’s selection of Connor Goldson on the left of defence may well have been an omen for the future arrival of the Scotland man.

It’s fairly imperative this is done now, without Rangers being held to ransom, but if the shoe was on the other foot and Rangers were selling a wantaway player in January, we’d try to get as much as we could too.

End of the day, Leon Balogun is back, which helps, and Leon King is rising, which also helps. Filip Helander will be back when he’s back, hopefully soon, but in the meantime adding another quality defender to the mix is absolutely no bad move.

Here’s hoping a good deal is done which suits Rangers.
