PL side Watford have reportedly earmarked Borna Barisic as a January signing and sources close to the Croat are said to have confirmed the interest.
The 29-year old has enjoyed a solid burst of form in a new role under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, with a greater focus on his defensive work, but has seen his attacking threat reduced to almost nothing as he adjusts to the new role.
His last assist was October 3rd and he’s had just two overall this season, so there’s definitely been a change in how he plays, but the form was a little lacking under the previous manager this season and earlier this year.
So Watford’s interest is intriguing, and they’re reportedly seeking to bolster defence in a bid to avoid the drop.
Value?
Once upon a time, with his form as it was in late 2019 and early 2020 we’d have expected around £25M for such a high stock player, being a Croat international as well, when comparing especially with Kieran Tierney’s fee.
But having lost his place with his country, nearing 30, and his form not as spectacular as it once was, we probably couldn’t expect even half that number now.
Nevertheless, next month will tell us if the Vicarage Road side are to pursue their interest in him.
