Rangers have been linked again to a January move for Billy Gilmour after it emerged Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel isn’t happy with his lack of game time at Norwich and Daniel Farke resents the idea of ‘developing another club’s player’.

The Scotland star, such an epic performer at the Euros, has found a place at Carrow Road hard to come by, and there’s a feeling his axe from Farke’s side has everything to do with politics and nothing to do with ability because Gilmour could play for Norwich with his eyes closed.

But the German coach has made it clear he isn’t interested in developing the players of other teams, which begs the question of why he accepted such a young player from Chelsea if he didn’t intend to use him.

Gilmour is frozen out, pretty much, and Tuchel is already looking towards bringing him back to Stamford Bridge in January, which could well see Steven Gerrard making a move next year to attract the former Ger on loan.

Let’s be clear – the only club Gilmour wants to be at is Rangers, and he wants to be Barry Ferguson 2.0. That’s his modus operandi, and he knew the chance of that happening 5 years ago were next-to-zero with so little pathway for youth.

But today, it’s more possible, and would give Rangers excellent depth in midfield, with Steven Davis advancing in years and Ryan Jack’s unreliable fitness.

Are Rangers in with a serious shout of getting him?

Why not.
