Ibrox Noise sources tell us Rangers’ new manager is due to be announced ‘inside 24 hours’ or ‘Monday at the latest’ and he is believed to be Giovanni Van Bronkhorst.

Rangers fans have gone through a hell of a day, with the confirmation Steven Gerrard is no longer manager, and Dutch press especially went ballistic with GVB’s availability and their insistence he was to replace Rangers’ outgone boss.

And our sources allege ‘someone’ will be in place very soon indeed, with certainty he’ll be installed and established by the time Rangers face Hibs after the international break.

We can’t absolutely 100% verify this yet, because things do change in football, but GVB is heavily odds-on, ticks every single Rangers box there is to scribble something on, and would be a terribly popular appointment.

In fact, aside Walter Smith’s return in 2007, this would be one of the most popular Rangers management appointments for decades, given Gio’s history with the club and the record of the Dutchman in management.

Van Bronckhorst himself is said to be very, very keen on the job, and it looks like very little is stopping it happening now.

We will watch and wait to see if an announcement is imminent.
