Allan McGregor today ghosted a question on Connor Goldson’s post-match rant today, refusing to drop his team mate in it and saying only that he doesn’t read papers or the news, and thought the press conference was about tomorrow.
In a likely pre-defined answer, the wily old veteran rightly rejected the question, ignoring it entirely and pretended he had never heard what Goldson said, and with a hint of needle suggesting the press conference was about Thursday, and not Sunday.
For the reputation of not being terribly bright that McGregor has, he is infinitely smarter than he appears, and is something of a wise old fox these days, having experienced pretty much everything football has to offer and learned much in that time.
Of course, he’s no Einstein (who is) but he knew to avoid that question entirely, and avoid doing what Goldson himself did which was to apportion blame on others in the squad.
The comments from Goldson have been seized upon by the media, and by fans, and McGregor did his team mate a huge favour ignoring the question.
The last thing we need going into a huge UEL match is any sense of trouble among players.
