Sporting Director at Ibrox Ross Wilson, who is fast becoming the new face of the ‘running’ of the club, has confirmed new manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst sadly will not be in the dugout for Sunday’s semifinal, but has every confidence in the backroom staff team assembled who will instead lead the side out v Hibs.

The likes of Colin Stewart, David McCallum and Jermain Defoe will be very much the main management team for the crunch semi, so the players are going to have to take on extra responsibility for this one given the above have never coached like this at senior level for the club.

We had believed Defoe would be following the ex-manager down south, but the former England striker elected to stay on and continue his own development as a coach at Ibrox.

As for GVB, his visa/work permit is the issue – the man is signed up and ready to go, but the club has to wait on paperwork coming through first.

Without being political, this wouldn’t have been an issue before Brexit but the new world dictates now that anyone from overseas requires one to work in the UK.

Otherwise GVB would have been in the dugout for Sunday’s cup clash as a EU citizen.

It is what it is, and as Wilson emphasises, the Dutchman will be here ‘soon’, and not before!

Either way, welcome back home Gio, just a little longer now.
