Gio close to next signing as Rangers raid Belgium

Rangers, having gubbed Antwerp out of last season’s Europa League in two of the most epic legs we can remember, are now going back for seconds after reports confirmed GVB wants their youth chief Zeb Jacobs, 26, to replace the departed Graeme Murty as Head of Development, or, to you and I, boss of the youth academy.

The young coach is said to be very close to making the move from Belgium to Scotland, and it could be a matter of only a day or two before that one is confirmed, which would be a big coup as he’s attracting interest elsewhere in Europe, with such promising performance at a fairly modest age 4 years shy of 30.

Retiring from the game young, at just 20, Jacobs was a midfielder in his playing days and a product of the KV Mechelen academy, and while we’re not sure if he quit in order to go into the development side of the game or if his promising career on the pitch was curtailed through injury, his performance in the technical areas as a coach have been impressive.

It’s no wonder Gio wants a progressive young coach to inspire the kids at Auchenhowie – Graeme Murty did an honourable job, but his qualities were limited, and someone like Jacobs is much closer to these lads’ age and is far more technically astute.

If this one can get over the line it’s a great addition.
