Sources: Goldson demands revealed, but caution urged

GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - APRIL 11: Connor Goldson of Rangers warms up prior to the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Hibernian at Ibrox Stadium on April 11, 2021 in Glasgow, Scotland. Sporting stadiums around the UK remain under strict restrictions due to the Coronavirus Pandemic as Government social distancing laws prohibit fans inside venues resulting in games being played behind closed doors. An Ibrox Noise source revealed a potential shocker over Connor Goldson, later suggesting it might not be true. So we didn’t run with it.

Since then, we’re seeing a few other sources now mentioning it and we’ll go ahead after all, because Steven Gerrard also cryptically hinted it was true.

We know the deal for Goldson’s extension is being held up, and we’ve been trying to get to the bottom of why for many, many months.

And our information, from more than one source, has suggested Goldson wants to be the club’s best-paid player, with a wage of £42K pw mentioned.

Other sources have quoted £50K.

We cannot verify the absolute truth of this – we’re not like the DR or the s*n who will splash a false exclusive and claim it as truth. We will give you the information we’ve received and we’ll leave it up to you to decide if you consider it to be true.

But if it is true, it is plausible, and Steven Gerrard’s ‘negotiations’ over ‘quids’ does seem to ring a louder bell.

Goldson knows how much the manager wants him, and may well be using that as a bit of a bargaining chip, thinking the club will cave to his demands given how indispensable he is to Gerrard. He was of course Stevie’s POTY last season.

As yet, they haven’t caved.

But that’s if you take the story as true.

We know our sources and trust them, which is why we’re urging caution over this. Because they are too.

But signs aren’t exactly pouring cold water over the story.
