Shock stat reveals 3 key factors in Rangers’ bad form

There is a worrying stat becoming clear at Ibrox this season, and the more non-wins we have the more pronounced it becomes.

And that is that in the whole of 20/21 we dropped 12 points. As October ends we have already dropped 9 points this campaign.

There is zero doubt the side simply isn’t performing and winning like it did last season, and that’s a major concern now as Celtic start to splutter slowly to life and the league table begins to have a familiar look.

Rangers’ lead has been reduced to just 2 points, meaning this season is becoming all to play for for both sides of the Old Firm, and Celtic fans will have growing belief now that they have a real chance of the SPL title.

Results and performances from Steven Gerrard’s men simply haven’t been up to scratch – so what do we attribute that to?

Honestly, we at Ibrox Noise are of the belief there’s three problems:

One, cynically, is the return of fans. The pressure of playing in front of fans again has possibly seen a drop to pre-Covid levels from this Rangers side. There’s no getting away that many players who absolutely thrived last season (Tavernier, Goldson, Kent, Davis) have really struggled this term to come even close to reproducing that form.

And two is the lack of spending in the summer window. We simply didn’t have the money this time to shell out on new talent, spending only on Juninho Bacuna (undisclosed, believed to be £2M) which is like the Hagi deal – buy now, pay later. The rest were all free – no high quality marquee arrivals aside Lundstram.

But then there’s three – and it ties into two and what Stevie Gerrard said after the Aberdeen match – far too many of these players are running on empty, not performing and need a rest. But then, equally, he’s the one selecting the bulk of them so we’re not quite sure how that tallies up.

The SPL title is still there, but we’re perilously close to that dangerous October November time like in 2011 when Celtic swept past us after injury to Naismith. We need critically to find the ability to improve, otherwise the title could be beyond us before too long.
