Rangers finally got their Europa League campaign off to a start following a comfortable 2-0 win over hapless Brondby.

The double-header v the Danes looks set to ignite the campaign and 3 points in the next one seem very possible, giving Rangers a strong position with 6 points after 4 matches, putting Steven Gerrard’s men into sudden last 32 progression.

Of course, you don’t count points before you’ve won them, but it’s pretty safe to say this is the worst group team Steven Gerrard has faced in all his UEL campaigns to date, and while they had a couple of hairy moments, Rangers were a league apart from the Scandinavians.

Guest writer Toke Theilade, a massive Brondby supporter, warned us in advance how bad his team were these days, and we guess we underestimated just how astonishingly rotten they actually were.

They did have one or two moments, mostly self-inflicted by some dreadfully poor Rangers defending, but all in all this was an easy win for Rangers and gives the Ibrox side a foothold in the group at last.

Win the next one, and Rangers will almost certainly be second and with a genuine chance of last 32 participation.

Not a bad night really.
