It’s hard to analyse yesterday’s win over Dundee without accepting that the display from the away side, albeit successful enough to take the three points, was absolutely drivel.

Only Leon Balogun and John Lundstram stood out, in each case having outright excellent matches, and while Alfredo Morelos and Joe Aribo secured the winning goal between the pair of them, the overall performances were abysmally abject.

Now, we’re top of the table, and no one can catch us if we keep winning, so we’re not actively seeking to be negative about 3 points.

But the worrying trend is that save the occasional brighter performance this season (Celtic, Livi in the cup) the football from Stevie G’s side has been simply getting worse and worse each fixture.

Now, it’s crucial to point out the quality of fare is irrelevant when you win, and you know what? That’s dead true.

We’d rather win the league ugly than come second with some ‘nice football’.

However, Rangers are quite simply riding their luck at the moment, luck Celtic aren’t getting and they’re playing not all that much worse than Rangers are.

At some point that luck will swing and they’ll get the benefits.

Which is why Rangers must take it into their own hands at some point in the near future to produce effective and decent football, as they did last season, and not rely either on luck or results elsewhere, both of which have come into play in the last two weeks.

That fortune won’t last forever, and Stevie has to find a way to get his men playing some solid football in there so that wins are earned by graft and quality, and not with a spot of chance.

It’s winning football for now, and we are some distance ahead of our Old Firm rivals, but the sooner Rangers fans are less stressed during matches and relieved at the end the better.
