Rangers could be ready to hand Niko Katic a shock reprieve if the results from Filip Helander’s scan are as grim as predicted.

The Croat, currently home at Hadjuk Split, was loaned out to Croatia on the basis of needing minutes, but depending on the Swede’s results, he could find himself returning to Ibrox sooner than expected.

As we know, there is a return clause set up for January, like most loans, but most loans also include clauses for immediate termination of loans in situations like this. Emergency situations like this.

We would be very surprised if Katic’s doesn’t have that included.

As such, there is every inch the shock possibility of the fan favourite on the next flight back to Scotland to continue his season if Helander’s results aren’t good and Rangers are down to just three senior defenders.

The diagnosis is expected today or tomorrow, and Rangers may or may not have a decision to make.

Could it be Katic will be registered as an emergency addition to the UEL squad?

We are postulating a little, because Rangers could be in a pretty hairy situation if Helander is to be unavailable for months or even more.

And the big solution would be the big man from Croatia.

What a story that would be…
