Rangers players rated – who scored 10 in our verdict?

Some belated ratings after another underwhelming Rangers performance which just about scraped a win.

How did the individuals fare?

McGregor:

Still looking a bit shaky, was in fact an injury doubt for this match, but will be glad to get away with a clean sheet. 6

Tavernier:

He did work hard but his crossing remains pretty weak and his defending off colour. He did, however, provide a fine assist for Morelos’ goal so that’s a plus. 6

Goldson:

Was exposed a few times, and his head wasn’t in the game. But for some poor control, Embalo could have got an early goal for the visitors thanks to Goldson’s lack of concentration. 5

Helander:

He was a bit better and generally marshalled the back, even winning a few fouls with some smart positioning. 6

Bassey:

He’s completely obliterating the out of form Barisic and is justifying his place. Works hard, has improved that crossing immensely and is in on merit now. 7

Davis:

Still does not look himself yet this season. Normally so composed but seems rushed now and loses the ball more than he used to. Time may just be catching him now. 5

Lundstram:

Didn’t have much impact, again, but did manage one outstanding cross, before needlessly getting himself sent off. Isn’t settling into this team at all yet. 4

Aribo:

A fine night from the big Nigerian, on his way back to match fitness. He dribbled a lot, managed to break through many times and defended brilliantly as well. Our best midfielder right now. Absurdly, a tonne of our fans believe he had a poor night. We’re bewildered. 8

Kent:

Oh Christ. Until he shows up this season, that’s going to be all we say about him. 3

Hagi:

Quiet first half but energetic second, the Romanian is a bright spot so far this campaign. 7

Morelos:

He might have scored the winner but he was mostly awol otherwise. A damning close up on 36 minutes revealed a lack of perspiration from a player who used to be drenched when he worked hard. He just wasn’t up for it in the way he was in Sweden. 6

Subs:

Wright:

In truth he changed the game completely. The unquestionable man of the match, Wright raised everyone else’s workrate and got the team finally spluttering into some action. It had nothing to do with being down to 10 men and ‘banding together’, it was because this guy’s vigour rubbed off on the rest. He earned this win alone. For that pure gutsiness we give him 10/10.

Manager:

Stevie will be, and is, very worried about his team’s abject showings, but he has to bear some responsibility for sticking by out of form stuff like Tavernier and Kent. We saw the difference when Kent went off, and that’s the sort of thing the boss needs to do from the start. Gerrard is part responsible for making this situation due to extreme loyalty. But equally the players just aren’t showing the will and guts enough. It’s concerning. 5
