Sources have revealed what the delay on Connor Goldson’s contract is, and it’s more complicated than initially feared.

Ibrox Noise told you he was considering a departure down south, keeping his options open, but the defender is also more than open to staying.

However the issue with the contract appears to be the wage he’s asking – Goldson wants to be one of the club’s highest earners, which in line with his importance to Steven Gerrard is understandable.

Rangers are also happy to pay him this level of wage, but not until CL is secured and the revenue streams for the club hit a whole new level meaning Rangers’ board can comfortably afford to hike his salary.

In short, all bets are off for now – Goldson appears happy to stay, but only at a wage suitable to what he believes his value is now, and Rangers agree he’s worth that, but can’t commit to it until CL is guaranteed.

Is Goldson exploiting his position? A little, but can you blame a player for wanting to make the most of their value to their employer. He isn’t going to extract the urine, but he does apparently believe he’s worth more now, and wants rewarded in kind for that.

Equally, Rangers have a defender who’s integral to their play of playing, who’s been made 100% immune to dropping by Stevie G and the club can only be held responsible for giving him the floor to demonstrate his worth.

Goldson holds the aces, but while the club seems to accept that and are willing to accommodate it, it does mean if Rangers DON’T secure CL, Goldson may have to be sold.

Long and short of it.
