Exclusive: “Made up” – the truth about Morelos’ transfer to Porto

Every transfer window turns into the latest Alfredo Morelos saga. In January 2018 Rangers officially rejected a £11M bid from Chinese giants Beijing Renhe, and confirmed that summer they’d also dumped a £2.5M loan bid from Turks Fenebahce.
Last summer Steven Gerrard and the board famously dismissed a £16.5M bid from French giants Lille and we were all wary of exactly what would surface this summer.
It turns out all the stories this summer, as things stand, are completely false, fooling in places even Ibrox Noise, because one media outlet from Portugal has kept driving traffic with a consistently untrue narrative.
Abola.pt has been the singular main source of the Morelos to Porto story, going as far as apparently quoting his best mate Daniel Candeias confirming the striker’s desire to join Porto.
This isn’t just a website, it’s a TV channel in Portugal, and our sources over there said the following:
“We have three major sports newspapers: abola.pt, record.pt and ojogo.pt. If I would place them in order of reliability, abola would be the last. They tend to be ultra-sensationalist, and made up a lot of “deals” during the transfer windows.”
Now the same source confirmed other Portuguese media have reported the Morelos story, but it keeps on being churned out purely by Abola.
Lies? Well given UK media insist Morelos has NOT asked to leave, despite Abola’s insistence, we’d inclined to believe the story which gives less traffic. A story about Morelos staying is less ‘click bait’ than one about him leaving.
And, of course, where Stevie G confirmed Lille’s bid last summer, he’s not even spoken about any interest this time.
Fabrication? Seems it.
But why drag Candeias into it?
