It’s not really Rangers but he is one of our own even if he’s daft as a brush. Kyle Lafferty is making the headlines with the Killie support in meltdown after he made the switch to Cyprus with Rangers’ old stomping partner Anorthosis Famagusta.

The supporters’ ire is down to the NI star’s alleged comments about wanting to be near his family, which in his defence is all he said, that he didn’t want to go overseas any more because he wanted to be around them.

He said he would try to remain in Scotland but clearly no one in Scotland could afford him, so he had to move to Cyprus. It wouldn’t have been his ideal choice but footballers are like any professional – they go where they’re paid to.

Killie made two major allegations about the bold Kyle – firstly that he demanded four times his wage next season, and secondly that he was give a few days to decide on a new deal, ‘in line with club policy’.

Lafferty calls that a lie and claims Killie only gave him a few hours. As for his wage demands, he scored 13 in 13 with 3 assists and sorry guys, that kind of return costs you money.

The Bold Kyle has been slated as a ‘mercenary’ by Killie fans aggrieved he’s followed the money, but hey, it’s because they can’t afford him any more.

Lafferty will always have a circus around him and that continues.

He might not be a Rangers player any more but outside of the Old Firm he was absolutely the best striker in the SPL bar none. And he was that at Hearts too.

He’ll do well in Cyprus, but we guess he’ll have to wait a while longer before he’s close to his family again…
