Steven Gerrard ‘announces’ his favourite player at Ibrox

We know a lot of things about Steven Gerrard, in the 3 years he’s been at Ibrox, given what we’ve learned about him as a manager in that time.
And it’s safe to say, by a distance, the teacher’s pet at Ibrox under our boss is Connor Goldson.
And we know this definitively after the POTY awards which saw Manager’s Player of the Year go happily to his vice-captain following an admittedly incredible 20/21 which saw him miss 0 minutes of football in the entire campaign.
We always knew Goldson and captain James Tavernier were the manager’s alphas, go-tos, stalwarts, but now we know, categorically, which one the boss truly rates as ‘most important’.
In many ways the ex-Brighton man is the most important, and Rangers may struggle to play our brand of football and defend as well as we do without him in the side, given how significant playing from the back is under Stevie and Bealey’s system, but even then, he’s been recognised officially now by Gerrard as the most important player.
Like we say, jesting a little, he clearly is the class swot! And the manager rates his importance so highly to honour him with his personal award.
But it’s deserved.
Goldson really was a class act this season, and crucial to the Rangers machine.
In years gone by Stevie got dog’s abuse for picking Goldson, and indeed Tav, with borderline immunity, but 20/21 was the year which saw that stubbornness completely vindicated.
