Rangers could be ready to cash in at £10M with ‘free’ replacement

One could replace the other.....

Planning for next season, one thing is certainly becoming clear – Niko Katic could well be getting earmarked to replace Filip Helander.

Helander is the subject of a tonne of interest down south – his CV is impressive and his displays have brought him a lot of attention.

He’d set any suitors back a good £10M or so – a Swedish international with his record doesn’t come cheap.

But Rangers already have a built-in replacement.

Niko Katic’s Rangers career has never, truly, entirely got going – he’s a fan favourite and he has all the tools to be a world class defender, but that injury came at a horrible time and he missed out completely on 55.

The Croat is slated to be back in the summer, with some luck, and he is indeed back at Auchenhowie working on grass at last, but Rangers may well be looking at him as a ready-made replacement for Filip Helander.

Helander is one of 6 defenders currently on Rangers’ books – true, Edmundson is away on loan, but Goldson, Katic, Balogun and Simpson remain at the club, and only four can be here come the end of the summer.

Rangers might well look at taking the £10M+ for Helander and using it elsewhere in the squad, while leaving the four defenders as is going into the new season.

It would be shrewd business, in truth.
