Glen Kamara’s comments today to ITV serve not as a warning to UEFA or Ondrej Kudela, but as a warning to a section of Rangers’ own fans who are willing to give the Czech’s accusation of assault credence despite no evidence.

The Finn has spoken out about the pain of the abuse he’s taking every day on social media, and has finally said exactly what Kudela told him: ‘you’re a monkey. You’re a f*cking monkey and you know you are’.

So not ‘you f*cking guy’ then…

Furthermore, the daily abuse the ex-Dundee man is now getting from all quarters gives some idea of the desperate issues non-white people especially struggle with online and the vile hassle they receive.

However, the nub of the matter is following Kudela’s unacceptable comments, some supporters have been unwilling to fully defend Kamara based on the accusations of assault.

Indeed, one went so far as to allege Rangers’ midfielder is really the bad guy here ‘if the accusations are true’.

The fact some fans are adding this condition before condemning the racism really is disquieting – there is literally no evidence this unfounded accusation is true, and it’s clearly a way of diverting attention from what Kudela did/said.

But no, instead of focusing anger on what Kudela clearly did, some of our support really don’t seem to stand with Glen Kamara at all.

These are strange times.
