English media have once again tried to unsettle Steven Gerrard by linking him with the Aston Villa job.

Because, of course, we all know that’s his ambition…

True, Villa are having a good season in a very strong midtable spot, but that’s exactly why manager Dean Smith’s job is pretty safe, rather than vulnerable.

But no, once again Football Insider exploit Rangers and Steven Gerrard for hits and we can only assume this story to be the hogwash like their links alleging Rangers will accept £6M for Filip Helander and other such stories are.

Almost all of which are Noel Whelan’s opinion.

Rangers fans have no fear at all about our manager – Gerrard will only leave Ibrox when the time is right for him and the Liverpool job becomes correct for him to move into.

He admits ambition to one day be Liverpool manager and we have no doubt he’ll do a stellar job there, but it’s the only gig he will leave Rangers for and it’s not going to happen for quite a few years.

With all due respect to Aston Villa, who are a decent club – it’s just not happening.
