Steven Gerrard has taken a dig at Sky Sports following the broadcast giant’s reported unhappiness at not being given priority access to Rangers’ 55 celebrations on Saturday and Sunday.

Following Rangers’ excellent draw in the Czech Republic, Steven Gerrard’s press conference included a question from Sky’s Vinny O’Connor, who Stevie rightly slammed down and pointed out the English arm of Sky Sports has shown no interest in coming to Rangers’ press duties in 3 years, until suddenly the Ibrox giants won something!

Of course, it would be churlish to ignore that Charles Paterson and Luke Shanley have been regulars for Sky Sports Scotland, both on match day and in press conferences, but the wider network giant has given everything Rangers a wide berth, only for Vinny to finally grace one with his presence today.

Of course, as the opening line alluded to, it all comes hot off the back of an apparent fracas between Sky and Rangers over the former not getting priority access to players and management following the securing of 55.

But then, absolutely no one else did either. Rangers kept all media work in-house to the Rangers Media team, and it was all exclusive to Rangers TV.

But Sky, entitled as they are, expected the red carpet for them above everyone else, just because they have exclusive SPL coverage rights, whether the viewing public wants that to be the case or not.

We don’t blame Stevie for taking a little pop today!
