We’ve talked about this in a few entries now, but the discussion over ‘£10M man Glen Kamara’ continues, and it’s bewildering to us that any fans of ours think he’s worth only that.

Sure, it represents a stonking profit on a £50K player, but if Celtic can get £8M for Armstrong, £12M for Frimpong, £20M for Dembele and £25M for Tierney, why on earth do some Rangers fans truly believe when the time comes to sell the Finnish international, our ambitions should go no further than barely into double figures?

Guys, this isn’t 2008 anymore, where the last time we sold a player for serious cash was in Carlos Cuellar. Those days are a thing of the past, and inflation and values have seriously gone up – and anything thinking £10M is suitable for a player of the ability of Kamara is seriously deluded.

Indeed, while Alan Hutton was infamously trying to pawn this lad off for £10M as a ‘fantastic bargain’, the fact he was saying that shows Kamara is worth a tonne more.

We’ve dropped the £40M figure before, and many of you call that fantasy football – the same ones, we’re sure, who gasped in disbelief that a crock like Tierney with only a handful of caps at the time could sell for £25M.

Isn’t that the point – we do NOT need to undercut ourselves. Whether we can get close to £40M for Kamara isn’t the point – he is definitely worth a tonne more than £10M.

A tonne of experience in the UEL, dozens of caps for Finland, and an imminent SPL winners’ medal.

Plus the recognition in football from just about every decent pundit that this guy is a serious top-level player who is wasted in the SPL.

We will not pawn players off for modest amounts – and our fans should stop perpetuating the myth that £10M is all we can get for some of the best players we have.

Now, some of you also argue that these Covid times make a difference, that players aren’t worth what they were.

So let’s look at the deals happening the past two transfer windows:

Havertz – £70M, Arthur – £66M, Ruben Dias £62M. Diallo £37M. Doesn’t look to us like they’ve gone down much, have they?

In January, our favourite one happened:

Said Benrahma – £20M.

He’s 25, a winger, and an Algerian international. West Ham punted £20M on him from… Championship Brentford. How many caps for Algeria? 6.

And some of our fans really don’t think we can get more than £10M in the summer for a player like Kamara.

Sure…
