Fans urged to stay home for Old Firm after numbers surge from 55

This Old Firm controversy is gathering pace. As you’ll have seen yesterday, Celtic embarrassingly erected barriers YET AGAIN outside their stadium, this time to stop their wonderful brethren from entering the ground, or trying to.

But the authorities, government, SPFL and both clubs are locked in negotiations on how exactly to handle the impending clash between the Champions and the sloppy seconds in the east of Glasgow.

The fear simply is that fans of both sides are going to descend on Parkhead – and it’s clear that they will do exactly that.

Rangers fans WILL be there, and Celtic fans won’t be able to resist either.

Unless, that is, both clubs can get through to their fans – Rangers lead the way on this, impressing over last weekend and all throughout the week that their fans stay away – this club could not have done more to try to halt the supporters for the potentially dangerous gatherings.

Now, we’ve looked into the numbers since Rangers’ large celebrations last weekend, and there’s been a spike of covid 19 cases from 1 new cases per day a week ago in Glasgow City just before the gatherings to 23 in the most recent stats. Unless we’re reading the numbers wrong, and we’re no statisticians or epidemiologists, there was a clear impact where the infection rate is now 2.5% (0.8% just over a week ago) in Glasgow, which is still below the national average of 3.4%.

But this is why all authorities plead on Old Firm fans to stay home.

It just isn’t worth it.
