“Post new year lull”? – we look at the numbers

With all the talk about Rangers’ post-new year lull, we thought we’d look, statistically, at how accurate that actually was.
As we know the first two seasons Rangers came back from warmer climes in January a shadow of the side which got on the plane before it.
This season the accusations weren’t terribly different – that the team wasn’t doing the business post Yuletide.
Thing is, when you look at the numbers, it’s a load of bllcks.
Rangers have only been marginally less effective for goals scored this year, with quite a few 1-0 wins.
Most significantly we dropped four points up till new year, and this year we’ve dropped… four points.
For the period which matters, which is start of the season till title mathematically secured, Rangers have completely aced the whole campaign.
In short, while we’ve scored a few less goals on average since new year (17 in 11 compared to 56 in 21) the results have been exactly the same.
There actually hasn’t been anything like the new year lull we suffered in previous seasons even if some of the football hasn’t been as sparkling.
