Steven Gerard has made a huge decision over Alfredo Morelos for today’s Old Firm clash with Celtic at Ibrox.

Morelos, who found his scoring boots again against St Mirren midweek, has been in and out of the team amidst form issues and the rise to prominence of both Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten, for whom form and goals have freely flowed the last month or so.

But today’s Old Firm is set to see Morelos back in place as the spearhead of attack as Gerrard makes the call to start the Colombian, who is backed to score against Celtic at long last.

The striker has been a divisive player during his time at the club, but his many detractors among the support will forgive a lot should the ex-HJK man find the net today.

The reality is Morelos has not been playing ‘a new role’ as his most ardent backers claim, he’s just been in poor form – Morelos was always a team player, and always played a little deeper than strikers tend to. It’s just that this was latched onto more in recent months as a justification for his lack of goals, but with his finding the back of the onion bag in midweek, hopes are high that the old scoring form has returned for good.

Hopefully Celtic will be the second victims in a few days.
