£10M bid and £11.5M sale shed major light on Rangers men

If nothing else demonstrates the value of Rangers players, that is, the financial market value of our assets, the sale of nothing Celtic RB Jeremie Frimpong for £11.5M proves it.

His CV is about as average as it gets. With Celtic for 51 appearances in two years, barely 8 assists and 3 goals, and he’s never been capped for his country.

He’s never played a Champions League match, has a whole 2 career assists in the Europa League and he’s just 21 and has a tiny 2 caps at U21 for the Dutch.

And that went for £11.5M.

If Celtic know one thing, it’s how to sell players at pretty stonking numbers, and they’ve shipped out Tierney, Dembele and now Frimpong for a combined £55M verging on £60M.

And we know clearly just what value we will get for our best assets.

We look at James Tavernier – his stats embarrass Frimpong’s, his stats embarrass most players, but comparing what he’s achieved this season with what Frimpong has is night and day.

And of course the long-standing tale of Borna Barisic and how Tierney’s £25M sale to Arsenal gives a clear example of what the Croat is worth.

We must admit, in the last few months and indeed half year, we’ve heard less derisory talk from Scottish football, including from our own, about what miserly fees our best assets are worth.

As the players delivered on the pitch, the values have become credibly lofty, and Leeds’ pathetic £10M offer for Ryan Kent was rejected out of hand.

As opposed to Celtic who took a similar amount for their wantaway RB.

So yes, if you think Glen Kamara is worth £30M, in reality these days, he probably is.
