Steven Gerrard has today confirmed following Wednesday’s defeat that Filip Helander will partner Connor Goldson for tomorrow’s visit of Motherwell, revealing that Leon Balogun’s head knock was severe enough to rule him out regardless.

Helander’s form has been a topic of unfair debate this season, following one off-night in Portugal, and the Swede wasn’t helped by injury which has seen him miss a chunk of action in recent weeks.

But he’ll be back in tomorrow and is ready to take his opportunity to shine, and stamp his authority on the shirt.

Helander, statistically, was in fact Rangers’ best defender till injury struck. He’d actually excelled the most and the most consistently for purely defensive stats, but got unfair abuse after some errors gave Benfica an undeserved point.

Of course, no one has really pointed out the same exact errors by different players led to the same goals by the same team only a short while later, but that’s besides the point, we’re sure.

Either way, Helander is back and will be champing at the bit to secure a long-term passage in the Rangers side.

We’ll see how he gets on in the XI come 3PM tomorrow.
