Rangers have just recovered from a major wobble

There’s no denying Rangers went through a bit of a ‘sticky’ spell two weeks ago. First a bad bad loss at St Mirren, then a struggled win v Motherwell.

Since then the recovery has been outstanding. A clinical and professional performance in Perth coupled with a significant win over Hibernian last night has brought Rangers’ iron fist back into play, and any teetering doubts some fans had and lingering hopes our eastern friends had were crushed ruthlessly.

Rangers could not respond better to that blip. Four goals, two shut outs and two sharp bounceback wins against sides who could have feasibly caused us some trouble.

Gary Mac said, before both matches, this period was to be pivotal in the title chase – that the period of 10-15 days would define Rangers’ season.

Despite the fact we’ve still got St Mirren again, and Celtic and Aberdeen to come, Rangers have made the best possible start to this spell, with no slip ups, no hiccups, and a healthy number of goals without reply.

The play hasn’t been mesmerising, but it’s been good, professional and effective.

It feels like Rangers have got it into their heads how to win, how to be champions, and the only thing left is to actually lift the trophy.

While there is a long way to go, the stats confirm that every title of the past 15 where Rangers or Celtic have led the table at Xmas they’ve gone on to win, bar one incident, which was Celtic leading and Rangers won, way back in 2009.

The reality is this Rangers team will win 55, as long as they keep their focus and their heads.

And this Christmas period is the first giant leap towards that.
