“World class” – Alfredo Morelos does it again

It’s taken us literally two days to get round to covering this, so we will finally honour Alfredo Morelos in the way he’s earned by focusing on his 22 goals in Europe, a club record.
Of course, as everyone and his dog knows Ally McCoist was the previous record holder with 21, but in just three and a bit seasons the Colombian has cracked that.
It’s a sensational achievement, albeit Morelos’ goals have naturally all come in UEL qualifiers and group stage, while Ally’s were in the Champions League, qualifiers, as well as the-then UEFA Cup but you can’t take anything away from the Colombian.
He’s been world class at this level, consistently overall one of the best strikers the competition has boasted the past three years, especially last season with an incredible 6 goals, and potentially this one if he retains his current momentum of two in the last two.
No getting away from it, this achievement is well-deserved. He might have been a bit of an acquired taste at times, and his personality might have been a little off now and then, but we must admit there’s something a little different about him overall this season.
He still reverts to type occasionally, but he does look happier overall, and his exploits in the UEL are just sensational.
Is he Rangers’ best-ever Uefa Cup/Europa League level striker? There’s a strong case for it, yes. He’s not the same as McCoist, it’s a different era, and no one can measure up against Super.
But Morelos’ case he’s absolutely proven himself to be able to stand shoulder to shoulder with the best in the game, doing it at this level time and time again.
And now he’s a record holder, plus may be staying after all… not bad eh?
