One of the most prominent comments we got from our readers after the win at Killie was the ineffectiveness of Alfredo Morelos.
Once again, the striker had earned his way into Stevie G’s good books with a fine cameo v Lech Poznan, with the winning goal no less, but at Rugby Park he was back to being his rather flat self again, and fans were quick to tell us about it.
The question is, will the manager agree and plump for Cedric Itten or Kemar Roofe up front instead?
Stevie has a frustrating issue.
On his day, in the mood, Morelos is by a distance the best striker in Scotland. Edouard over ‘there’ is the only one to come close, and his record just doesn’t match Morelos’. It’s good, very good, but it’s not as good as the Colombian.
The Morelos from last season’s UEL was world class. There’s no getting away from how good he was – and he could easily have fetched £50M on those performances.
But that Morelos hasn’t been around for quite a while, and his display at Rugby Park wasn’t that of the same player.
But he’d earned it from the Poznan cameo.
So does Stevie bench him again and opt for Roofe, or does he go with his best man and hope he turns up?
Morelos is in the shop window – it’s in his interests to show up on the Euro stage – it’s probably why he was so explosive last Thursday.
So in fairness, his manager is likely to get a performance out of him tonight.
It’s whether the gamble on that is worth taking, or whether Stevie would rather put in a man who has just scored one of the best five goals in history.
We’ll see around 7PM tonight.
