Further to our content recently on Jordan Jones, the winger has himself completely confirmed the reason he never played much the past 12 months.
We discussed how Steven Gerrard suggested the attacker was training well and that was the player he expected him to be, further cemented by his display at Fir Park, but the flanker has gone further and admitted the full truth.
He said:
That final section gives the entire game away – when Jones wasn’t being selected and wasn’t being used, he behaved immaturely in training and was moody. In short, the NI international conducted himself like a spoiled brat and struggled to maintain composure when things weren’t going well.
And that kind of attitude is not deemed acceptable by Steven Gerrard, who, no matter how good you are, will not select a diva.
Jones admits he’s grown up, and when faced with adversity he now deals with it more maturely than he did.
Gerrard has confirmed Jones is a player he wants, a player he wanted and a player he’s happy to use – but the winger’s own poor attitude in the past year especially last season is why he was miles away from the first team.
Indeed, he was basically axed for immaturity and not being able to handle rejection.
The curiosity is that Gerrard rated him, and still does – and doesn’t Greg Docherty, so despite the latter always being super professional in training it still wasn’t enough. But Jones would have got back in had he been a bit more grown-up.
He’s learned now, and Rangers are set to benefit from it.
