Rangers ‘in talks’ with midfield powerhouse

Rangers close to securing Zungu

Rangers’ squad is nearly complete, with just one piece of Steven Gerrard’s jigsaw currently waiting for install.

With Greg Docherty and Ross McCrorie now free to leave, the manager is making squad space for a new powerful midfielder, such as Bongani Zungu, and South African outlet Zalebs confirms the Amiens man is ‘in talks’ to join ‘Scottish giants’ Rangers.

The 27-year old has been long-linked for a move to Ibrox, and while there have been rumours the deal was off, it appears negotiations have continued.

It is being claimed by sources that the midfielder’s wage demands are a little on the high side, and that’s the stumbling block up for negotiation.

Rangers are definitely favourites to secure him, and while midfield currently has Ryan Jack, Joe Aribo and Glen Kamara, with Davis and Arfield as backup, Gerrard appears to want one more clinching signature to seize 6 high-quality options for the main three slots.

Of course, currently the manager is running a double pivot with Jack and Kamara, but Jack is not quite able to fully express himself and Kamara is certainly shining, so where Zungu would actually fit in to this system we’re not absolutely sure.

But Gerrard wants the options, the depth. He wants to be able to call upon bench options which are as strong as what he has on the pitch, and that’s why he’s signing such good players despite having personnel already there.

It does mean it’s tricky to keep everyone happy, but the club will only benefit from it.

We are sorry to lose McCrorie and Docherty, but you’d have to say Zungu would be a decent replacement.
