Rangers forward set for exit

Jamie Murphy is set to end his Rangers exile by becoming the latest Scottish player at Ibrox to leave, with Dundee United linked but regarded as ‘unlikely’.

The winger, favoured by Gerrard in his first season before the terrible injury at Rugby Park, has found chances non-existent, with just two sub appearances at Ibrox since August 2018, and has no future at the club under the manager, despite his lively spell at Burton Albion last season.

In fairness, we did suggest in 2019 that Rangers had rather passed Murphy by, given just how long he’d been out, and Gerrard’s acquisition of Ryan Kent and many other options for left wing gave Murphy no real pathway back in. So his falling to the bottom of the pile was inevitable.

But that excellent spell in League One for Albion gave his Rangers career a bit of a spark, with the notion he had plenty left to offer after all.

But Gerrard thinks otherwise, and he’ll certainly leave now for first team football with the promoted Arabs a potential destination.

It’s intriguing that Rangers are willingly strengthening clubs we’re supposed to dislike, with McCrorie to Aberdeen and now Murphy possibly to United, but then you could argue it is trimming the dead wood.

Whether all fans agree Murphy and McCrorie are in that category is another matter.

But the former will leave, whether to Tannadice or not.
