Rangers’ best defender – revealed

Rangers left back Borna Barisic

Is it Borna?

Rangers’ best and most consistent defender statistically has been revealed today, and fans might be surprised by the findings.

Many would assume Borna Barisic, or even Connor Goldson – interestingly none of these are Rangers’ most effective.

Rangers’ most efficient stopper, overall, is Filip Helander.

James Tavernier tops Rangers’ table for the most successful average tackles per match of anyone in the side, with 2.6 so far, but Helander is close with 2.3.

Balogun is out in front for interceptions, despite considerably less match time than the rest bar one, at 2, with Helander (the one) just behind him at 1.3, while being joint with the new boy for blocks, at 0.3.

Rangers have dominated possession in every match so far, but Helander is consistently high with his numbers, despite just two outings including one as a sub.

Rangers’ best defender

He doesn’t top any one stat, but he’s the most consistent in his match and a half so far.

It’s interesting that Connor Goldson doesn’t feature as a contender in any of these areas of defending, but he is the guaranteed starter.

But Helander and Balogun are posting good numbers, and it’s no wonder Rangers are yet to concede.
