“Yes, they have watched him” – Stevie reveals big club interest

Steven Gerrard has confirmed what the press have claimed, and what Rangers fans both appreciated and feared, that Borna Barisic is indeed a target for Roma, among other sides.

The LB, in the form of his life and easily one of Britain’s top five in his position, has propelled to greater heights than anyone, we’re certain Steven Gerrard included, ever believed he could, and has become a truly lucrative asset at 27 and is only getting better.

This has not gone unnoticed by Europe’s premier sides, and Stevie has revealed Barisic is one Roma have been watching for a while, and Rangers will do what we can to hold onto our star performer.

He said:

“There has been interest in Borna and there has been for a long time, even when his form wasn’t in a place where it is right now. Everyone respects the fact you’re talking about the Croatian No 1 left back and they’re a team that has massive respect around the world.”

As we explained last season, Barisic’s poor domestic form was not a factor in his global stock, which given his stunning performances for Croatia, remained high, and only got higher, and teams like Roma would acknowledge his form for his country much more accurately reflected the player he was rather than his-then struggles in the Rangers shirt.

And that’s why we stated he’d be a £20M player. That his Rangers form has gone through the roof and made him one of UK’s top players only doubles that number at least if not much much more.

And now we know for sure teams are after him. Which is why securing him to a new deal is so so important now.
