Stevie confirms imminent selection change – fans might not like it

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has revealed something Rangers fans might not be thrilled with, and that is that he’s set to rely on unpopular Sheyi Ojo in the coming weeks and months.

The on-loan Liverpool winger is widely regarded as one of Rangers’ weaker recruits, and bar an excellent goal v Feyenoord, has failed to win supporters over, but Gerrard insists the attacker will be a big player in the weeks ahead.

He said:

“That’s the most positive I’ve seen him for quite some time, so hopefully he is going to kick into a bit of form, because we’re going to need him.”

None of this sounds good – and it appears the rules over Ojo’s selection do indeed differ to everyone else. We have never before heard the manager borderline imply he will select a player and just hope he plays well, rather than the traditional criticism of poor form and threats about leaving them out.

No, here, whether it’s down to the usual loan clause stuff or the fact Gerrard’s realising his squad isn’t good enough, Ojo is now set to be restored as a major player at Ibrox in the second half of the season.

Whether fans like it or not.
