Many Rangers fans demand Stevie G makes this big January move

A groundswell of support among Rangers fans has grown for a big January move for on-lava Lawrence Shankland, whose move to Championship side Dundee United has seen staggeringly devastating form and earned a rare Championship player call up to the national side.

Surprisingly, the 24-year old hitman elected to make a rather parallel move to Tannadice from Somerset Park, despite all the offers for his services provided by a glut of Scottish and English sides this summer.

He was a lucrative Bosman, his deal for then-manager Ian McCall’s men expiring this summer and Scotland’s highest current scorer elected to make the intriguing move to Dundee rather than make the big switch to a Rangers, Celtic or significant Championship side.

But with Rangers still probably on the lookout for that third striker to truly cement a choice of three top-class strikers rather than just Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe, Shankland is one on many fans’ lips.

He has a ridiculous tally this season, with 11 in 6 in the league for the Arabs, and 14 in 10 overall, continuing on from last season which furnished him with 34 in 38, a comically stunning number in anyone’s language.

So any January move for his signature would clearly require a strong bid to United, given he’s signed for three years.

That said, he was evidently available this summer and it appears Rangers didn’t give him a serious enough offer to tempt him, so whether the striker really does want the move to Govan or indeed if Steven Gerrard legitimately wants him enough now is another question, even though he is a boyhood Bear himself.

Either way, January could be interesting indeed…
