Devastating Rangers stat which makes or breaks 55 – and it starts today…

Rangers travel to Rugby Park today in a season-opener, but it’s one with more significance than ever before given the implications.

As Steven Gerrard’s men seek a strong start to the pursuit of 55, there is a stat or two which shows just how important it is that they get the three points today, for that title challenge depends on it.

Rangers have NOT won in the league at Rugby Park in 8 years, last doing so under Walter Smith when we won 54 in 2011.

This is how important securing the win today is – a victory v Angelo Alessio’s side is a colossal omen that Gerrard is on the right path.

But it’s also not the only omen Rangers must contend with. Of the last 9 league matches between these sides, Rangers only have a solitary win – achieved last May year. Since then it’s all draws and losses – regardless of venue.

However, in more positive news, there is a contrarily stunning stat which favours Gerrard’s side immensely. While not quite 100% brilliant, it nevertheless shows history could hugely back the Govan men today – other than Hearts in 1998, Rangers have NEVER lost a season opener since the inception of the SPL – that’s 16 seasons, naturally excluding the four outside Scotland’s top flight.

So while it’s not a guaranteed win, history on that stat suggests Rangers will not lose either.

But as the earlier pattern alluded to, to actually win would have massive gravity. It would be the biggest boost for any serious title push.

And that’s what we’d rather look at.

COME ON RANGERS!
