Potential Rangers departure may open door for forgotten man

Following today’s breaking speculation linking defensive midfielder Ross McCrorie with a loan away next season, it begs the question of what Steven Gerrard is planning for Greg Docherty and Jordan Rossiter, the latter especially.

Rossiter is a pure DM, and had a wonderful season at Bury, and will join up at Rangers again for pre-season as far as our information tells us, but with his rival McCrorie potentially off to pastures new for a season, Rossiter may find more opportunities in the first team next season.

We know he’s one Gerrard likes, and his superb season in League One last campaign was closely monitored by Rangers (as all our loans are), so there is no doubt his repeated man of the match displays earned him great praise and would have impressed Billy Kirkwood especially.

So does McCrorie’s own potential loan suggest he will now leave a vacancy for Rossiter to fill as quality depth in defensive midfield, or does it mean absolutely nothing indeed for the ex-Anfield kid?

With Glen Kamara being linked with a move to Brighton, and Ryan Jack’s new advanced midfield position, if everything plays out as it’s being claimed, Rangers would only have Rossiter and Steven Davis for that slot. Which, in fairness, given the new style Stevie plays, would still suit Davis down to the ground leaving Rossiter for depth.

As for Docherty, in fairness he’s evolved into an AM now so perhaps the ramifications for him aren’t quite so significant. We’ll see how he figures come the return of preseason in a few weeks.

It’s all a time of change at Ibrox, and we are very interested to see how these potential personnel alterations develop.
