Stevie lines up four-man swoop as summer window looms fast

Rangers were last night linked with a summer raft of signings, with a sudden clutch of players said to be on the radar for a move to Govan the upcoming window.

On-loan Birmingham striker and long-time Rangers target Greg Stewart has suddenly resurfaced as Steven Gerrard looks to next campaign for a more serious assault at the title. The 29-year old forward, on loan at Aberdeen at present, has had a solid season at Pittodrie, with 19 goals/assists this term. He fared less well at his parent club in 16/17 with zero goals or assists in the league for Birmingham in England’s second top tier, but his ability to do it in the SPL will be of most interest to Gerrard.

Meanwhile, Wigan’s Nick Powell is also still on the radar. The 25-year old forward is a free agent this summer, with a stunning market value of £3.5M and with 7 goals and 7 assists in 27 appearances for Wigan, we can see why Gerrard, and a host of other clubs, are interested in the English attacker’s services.

Furthermore, the Jake Hastie story, as we mentioned yesterday, has been resurrected from the dead, and claims are that wherever the Fir Park winger moves will cost his new club a modest six-figure sum. He seems a dead cert to move on from Steve Robinson’s men.

And then there’s still rumours about Graeme Shinnie – word has it Derby have ‘beaten’ Rangers to his signature and he’ll move south, but nothing concrete has materialised on that one and he may still be one that Stevie is looking at.

And last but not least John Souttar – the Hearts stopper is curiously interesting Gerrard going by the buzz at present – he would set Rangers back an alleged £1M if the allegations are true, but the reality is much more likely to be closer to half that.

As we near the window, the names will come thick and fast.

But we must admit, there’s a lack of really convincing names overall being connected with a switch to Ibrox.

We can’t really see the above, even with Jordan Jones, should we hold onto Ryan Kent and by a miracle retain Alfredo Morelos, being much of a threat to Celtic.

Not great, to be honest.
