Rising star and Chelsea 6 footer – Rangers’ latest transfer links…

With the summer window not exactly that far away now (just over two months) Rangers’ work to secure a stronger squad for a serious assault on the league next season is clearly underway in earnest, and Steven Gerrard has had two new names linked with a possible switch to Govan attached to him.

We begin in Motherwell, and dangerous winger Jake Hastie, 20. The talented attacker is reportedly on Gerrard’s radar, and with five goals and an assist in eight SPL appearances this season it’s obvious why.

The left winger has matured considerably in recent times, coming off an underwhelming (by comparison) spell at Championship Alloa with three goals and four assists in 23 appearances to escalate his effectiveness dramatically at Fir Park.

The Scotland U21 international is out of contract in the summer and would be a brilliant free agent for Gerrard to snap up.

And if he comes, he may well be joined by the Czech Republic’s Tomas Kalas. The 6ft defender, currently on loan at Bristol from parent club Chelsea, has 18 caps for his nation and is a ‘mere’ 25 – he’s valued reportedly between £3M-£5M and is under contract for a further two years.

The pacy defender considers himself more effective against similarly speedy opponents than against stronger muscle – albeit given his near-ever present nature in England’s rather physical second tier this season the former Vitesse man may just be being modest.

It must also be addressed that Celtic are similarly interested in him. Of course…

Either way, these would be another decent couple of grabs. We’ll see if they happen.
