One Rangers man will not be happy with Glen Kamara arriving

Last night’s late late show of securing Finland international Glen Kamara was nice little end of window treat for Rangers supporters.

The former Dundee star was regarded as the Dee’s best player by a distance and with his being out of contract this summer Steven Gerrard was willing to wait.

The player, however, was not. Glen Kamara, professional or not, had made up his mind and his heart was in Govan long ago. We heard many stories his head had dipped and he’d downed tools, with zero desire to play for the Dens Park side any more knowing he was out of contract the following summer and Rangers were seriously interested.

Whatever you think of that, of those stories, Kamara’s ability cannot be questioned and now we have a player with several caps for his nation who can score as well.

But as much as we’ll cover the player himself in later entries, we must offer a little spot of sympathy to Jordan Rossiter who has had to travel to the modest climes of Bury to get a game while a player only a year or two older has taken his place permanently at Ibrox.

Rossiter has gone to the Giggs Lane side determined to get minutes and game time to prove himself, but just like Greg Docherty in the last window (who has been a revelation for Shrewsbury) Rossiter sees his place at Ibrox taken by a Gerrard signing when he’ll have felt the manager should have stuck by him instead.

There’s a big condition here – Jordan Rossiter has next to no SPL experience. Signed in 2016, he’s only made a grand total of 10 appearances in the SPL and a total of 48 matches in football, period – including the Premier League 2 and a sole EPL appearance – something often overlooked by many.

Kamara, on the other hand, has 54 appearances in English football and 64 in Scotland – which is a hell of a lot more experience.

Of course, Rossiter’s injuries are why his career has been derailed – but having regained fitness it seems Steven Gerrard just trusted the likes of Ross McCrorie, Ryan Jack and even Andy Halliday instead. And all three of these guys have been increasing stand outs this season.

But that won’t make Rossiter feel much better – his place has been taken by a new signing, a four and a half year deal signing and that really does put massive pressure on him now. It’s likely Rossiter has played his last game for Rangers given the wealth of competition and the fact Rangers have Greg Docherty (and even Jason Holt) to return in the summer too.

But you never know, there could still be a future for the anchor at Ibrox. Football’s a funny old game.
