Shock Rangers target emerges – could Gerrard really be tempted?

Following his outstanding performance in last Saturday’s Old Firm victory, Ross McCrorie has become a shock January target for Championship giants Swansea, it has emerged.

The 20-year old has been in and out of the starting XI under Steven Gerrard, amassing a decent 19 appearances but only starting in 10 of them, struggling early on in the season under the initial 4-1-4-1 formation the new manager deployed at the start.

Since reverting to 4-3-3 then 4-2-3-1 more lately, Gerrard has seen fit to make much more use of the Auchenhowie graduate and the youngster’s displays have improved accordingly, resulting in that outstanding defensive midfield show against our old rivals.

And it appears this performance has caught one-time Rangers-linked Swansea boss Graham Potter’s eye and the Swans could be set to launch a bid to take him south.

Every player does have his price, but we do wonder what Gerrard and Rangers value McCrorie at – a 20-year old with much improvement and potential with the package, but who is already performing at an admirable level would be a player we would suggest they’d expect a healthy bid for before considering the sale.

Personally, we think a minimum of £3M. We don’t have to sell, and we have only Ryan Jack otherwise, unless Jordan Rossiter is counted, so defensive midfield is probably not as blessed with depth as it may once have seemed.

And if McCrorie is to be sold, Gerrard would expect a good amount of money to find someone else to replace him.
