Britain obsesses with Rangers as Gerrard 99% secures two huge deals

Following the unofficial confirmation that former England striker Jermaine Defoe will be joining Rangers, the transfer became a top-trending story on social networks as Britain’s airways lit up over the news.

Rangers were headlining Sky Sports News today too, with the double story of Defoe and Steven Davis, with the latter a medical away from completing his move, if he has not already.

But it’s the fact the whole of the country has today been talking about Rangers and Defoe which gives some idea, finally, of the true impact of the Steven Gerrard effect.

Whether Defoe is in the prime of his career doesn’t matter a jot, the 36-year old striker is still extremely capable and many have argued, on both sides of the Old Firm, that it is a game changer, and the kind of signing Rangers could not have achieved without Gerrard as manager.

We brought this story to you last summer, and it was already becoming a very serious possibility back then, but now it’s about to happen.

Britain is talking about Rangers, Defoe and the title.

Celtic are talking about Rangers, Defoe and the title.

It really, is, as if it ever was not, all about the Rangers.
