Gerrard planning double international January signing swoop; rumours

Following Rangers’ recent poor form, speculation has increased that Steven Gerrard is set to try to ramp up his January efforts in securing Northern Ireland pair Steven Davis and Jordan Jones.

Davis, recently given the Southampton captaincy back, has not been hugely in favour this season at St Mary’s, and will be out of contract next summer – the links between him and a return to Ibrox have persisted for well over a season now and he’s said to be interesting Steven Gerrard as a possible free.

Meanwhile Jordan Jones continues to simmer in the background – with Ryan Kent struggling on his return to competitive action as well as being a loan player, Daniel Candeias’ own form fluctuating and Glenn Middleton remaining raw, only Eros Grezda appears the only convincing winger Rangers actually have and he too remains a bit of an enigma at this point.

Hence Gerrard is said to be monitoring Jones as a possible January signing whether on permanent deal or pre-contract.

Meanwhile Rangers have also been linked to today with an interest in Gillingham’s Tom Eaves – the League One striker tops the division in scoring rate, and the 26 year old striker faces suitors in the form of Preston and Blackburn as well.

With Rangers’ current performances not inspiring a lot of optimism, some fresh blood in January will certainly be appreciated.
